Final: Indiana Fever wins third game of the season.
Indiana Fever established a very big lead in the first quarter, and they mastered the secret of how to remain with the lead in the last quarter to have a very important 85-83 victory and extend the Washington Mystics poor run throughout the year.
Caitlin Clark and company started off strong after a blistering defense in the first quarter netting the ball at 28-19 and it seemed like they were cruising against a team that has been causing many problems in the current season but the home team answered back.
For the second quarter things changed, as the Mystics flew back and made a ballgame out of it trailing by just two points after outscoring the Fever 21 to 14. It was Indiana still on a lead that headed into the final clock break at 42-40.
During the rest of the game, the players of the two teams were leveled, meaning neither team received a break or had an advantage partially in the remaining quarters, but it was marvelous to observe the further course of the game.
Each team had the same number of points scored throughout certain intervals, but it was the fever that dominated most of the teams. Caitlin Clark was indeed on fire from the floor and when she was making her way to the hoop she caused many fouls.
The long lead they took twice in the second half stayed there the end and the Mystics again failed to clinch the win. Clark made 30 points and got 6 assists in the game, whereas Stefanie Dolson made 19 points, and Aaliyah Edwards obtained 12 rebounds but their team was not lucky enough to win the match.
Washington Mystics and Indiana Fever are going to face off for the third time in Commissioner’s Cup games this season as second place team with two victories in ten games going up against the last-place team with two victories in ten games facing off on Friday evening at the Capital One Arena.
Indiana is arriving to Friday’s game having played 11 games in 20 days to begin the season. The Fever, on the other hand, had a 71-70 victory against the Chicago Sky the previous day at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Scaling through her youthful vigor, Clark scored the highest 3-point field goal and successfully converted on three of the four free shots in the final moments. She failed to catch the last one and the ball became dead as the Mystics, already down 0-11 at the half, attempted a fast break. This gave Washington one last shot with one and. Two free throws by Sue Bird put Seattle ahead 77-74 with 4 seconds on the clock, Mystics never managed to attempt a field goal.
Clark grabbed eight rebounds and made six passes for what could have been her best game in terms of biology. She scored 21 points out of 15 field goal attempts, and also got four steals, but again turned the ball over eight times, the problem she had in college as a player at Iowa.
This is true since Indiana; the team that wanted in 3-9 was coming from a four-day break after having a very congested first two weeks of the season that saw them play 11 games in 20 days. This time it was Washington that was playing the second night in a row, or as it is known in basketball back-to-back sets.
